PERFECTING YOUR STANCE
One of the basic fundamentals of pool is an individuals "Stance"
Most players don't have exactly the same stance is there is no real exacting science but there are a few guidelines to keep in mind when perfection your pool stance.
Balance is one of the most important factors because a good stroke requires very little body movement except your arm. As a new pool player you need to find the proper balance to keep the rest of your body completely still. Start by spreading your feet apart so that you are distributing your weight evenly. Slowly slide your left foot forward if you are a right handed shooter or your right foot if you shoot left.
Your arm should be completely perpendicular to the table and should remain at that angle until after your swing your cue stick. A straight stoke is only possible if there are no sideways movements of your arm or body.
Make sure you have enough room for your arm to swing freely. Angling your body 30 degrees from your cue stick should give you enough room to ensure your arm doesn't hit your hip when you swing back to take your shot.
The final fundamental is to ensure your cue stick is as level as possible by lowering your upper body to a point where your cue stick becomes level with the table. Ensure your head is aligned with the aim line of your shot. Your cue must be aligned with the center of your head or right below your dominant eye. Remember to keep your head perfectly perpendicular to the table making sure you are tilting one way or the other. Trying this over and over will help you to develop your best pool stance.
